Portrait Photography – real estate, aerials, landscapes, people, pets – you could spend all your time and money buying new camera lenses. Which one is truly a fit to your style and the story you are telling? Photographers learn this: what you love takes time, for me, the creative process is an inner dialogue, you must have patience, love and passion. Even get angry with yourself over accepting what is clearly not good enough for you.
Jedi Mind Tricks & Portrait Photography
At the end of your photographers journey, whether full auto iphone or full manual digital single lens-reflex (dslr) you will know the way of the Jedi. Of course. And those who wish to pay you nothing for your work may pass you by once you figure out your strength is not in compromising your creative time.

Being poor and creative may be synonymous, we’ve all heard the story of the poor talented actor, writer, artist, designer, film maker, photographer. But the Jedi mind trick is that we don’t lose the struggle, the broke and in debt, sleepless and working 5 jobs with family responsibilities, that feeling of blind dedication.
Hold close your anguish and struggles, remember them, they are what drove us as we begin to receive pennies, then dollars, then abundance in heaps and heaps for our developing talent. Never lose that root anguish. It’s what spurs me on second by second.

NADA KHALAF-JONES – INSANELY PASSIONATE DIGITAL VISUAL CONTENT PRODUCER
Jedi mind trick yourself – be in the now, be in the creative frame of mind, always have a camera, that is when you are clear, you will channel – move the sense of light and shadow through your being into the sensor onto the sd card. Stealing universe energy…it’s the most powerful Jedi mind trick: believing in yourself in the face of all the struggles and your own mental odds.
For sure. We learn this: what you love takes time. And has great value. Believe in the way of the Jedi. Padawan.

Nada Jones – wannabe good photographer
1) i haven’t figured it out yet
2) i can’t begin to afford what I know I want
3) whatever is in my hand is the lens for me
4) i have a smartphone and editing app who needs anything else? – bingo
All valid questions. And answering all of them would make a great blog.
One thing ill say is – to get photos like these ones costs less than a smart phone. Simply put. I had a $300 manual (no auto anything) lens on a basic level $500 camera body. But if you buy your best camera iphone or android phone the results won’t be far off.
I LOVE TO WIN – With Portrait Photography
Is it practical for the pace of social media and digital content production today? Heck yeah – if you have an automatic everything dslr – bingo. Iphone’s too.
Another good point – If you are shooting 500 high school students – all alone, no assistant – you would find it easier to shoot auto focus, or use a monitor and remote shutter.
Manual Photography would be fine if you weren’t changing position or poses that many times. And if you can literally call the speed and timing of the shots.
If you were shooting a set up like this wedding invite, flowers, rings manual works beautifully because you can take a little time to get the angles right and move around to frame the shots right. Trick is – Jedi mind trick is – don’t give up when you aren’t getting the look you love. Now you can’t do this w iphone (or can you someone help me out here) since they don’t have a portrait mode that allows for depth of field for anything other than people and pets.

For any kind of portrait photography session – in my opinion wedding photography is one long portrait photography session with many different lighting set ups…being nimble is vital. So.
It’s important for you to grasp the lighting, aperture, graininess basics. What is moving and what is not? They were moving fast. (!) And the lens I used to make the shot above was set at F5.6 and as you can see caught the light just right. It was really good to see these two (seriously great runners & beyond…) newly weds like this.
So how do you get this photo? And any photo as good as this. It’s about the story it tells. The mood is right. The light on her and the light beyond. It seems to work.
PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY WITH ‘BOKEH’ – ALSO KNOWN AS SHALLOW ‘DEPTH OF FIELD’ – ALSO KNOWN AS FUZZY BACKGROUND?
GRAB – grab iphone 11 pro turn off live photo, shoot raw, set to portrait mode x 2 lens or grab Sony Alpha camera w 35mm or 50mm lens w F1.4. Can be prime or zoomie. Set up your subject in the foreground, with something neutral behind them – but further away.
GO – outside and find a hedge, fence, roadside. Pick an object, phone box? Post box? Parked car, kissing couple? Stray cat. Green leaves sticking out of a hedge into the pavement area. And step behind it. Focus on the leaves, phone box, stray cat, ignore what is beyond, behind your subject. Then move all the way to one side so you can see the subject on the far right or far left or dead center like the ring shot below. Make sure you focus tightly on your subject, frame it. The background will be blurred unless you have your aperture really small – go for something close to F1.4 through F4 or so. But get as much as you can of your background FUZZY in the shot to tell more of a story. Bokeh, that’s it.

PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY & 1:1, 35 MM & MANUAL STUFF
What is 1:1? – it’s the aspect ratio you are using to frame your shot. 1 wide by 1 high. If the ratio of an image is different than the ratio of your screen, you may not see the whole image. Images won’t fit properly if the screen is narrower than the image. It’s great because websites I design have a ‘responsive’ selection that lets the shape of the image be adjustable to fit whatever screen a user is on while looking at your website.

Common aspect ratios include 1:1, 16:9, 3:2, 4:3, and 5:9. A square 1:1 ratio means the width and height are the same. This is a convenient format for mobile screens. It’s probably most recognizable as the classic Instagram aspect ratio.
What is a 35mm Lens? It is the mist versatile lens – The 35mm lens can be used for almost anything: Landscapes, portraits, travel shots, macro photography, street photography, real estate photography, product photography – just about everything.May 16, 2013
What is 35mm? 35mm film (actually 36 x 24mm) was the standard size used in the time before digital cameras. … Another term for a 35mm digital sensor is a full frame sensor. 35mm digital sensors are also called full frame sensors because other smaller sensor sizes were created. It’s result when processed – either on old style film or digital images – in an image proportionally closer to what the human eye sees.
What is Cine? – Ciné film or cine film is the term commonly used to refer to the 8 mm, Super 8, 9.5 mm, and 16 mm motion picture film formats used for home movies. It’s also
