‘Oh How I Love You’
Sony 90 mm Macro Lens – a brilliant lens, with and without flash. Have been using it a lot recently. Walking with it on the Sony Cinema Line FX3, around the rapidly growing city of Sarasota in June. Bi-polar Florida Keys rain storms and such to be avoided. Photographing my family.
Finally left Key Largo! We’ve been getting island fever here! It was my 21 year old’s birthday celebration. Definitely – photographic moment!
The Sony 90 mm Macro Lens is a dream. The bokeh is fabulous. Photographing the subject with a fuzzy background. It is easy with the shallow depth of field the f2.8 gives you: that allows you to really let in the light. In a wide range of dimly lit situations.
And the fast auto or manual focus controlled by this pull push ring. In an easy to use location. It’s the front of the lense where your hand rests. So I find myself using it frequently.
Some challenging situations where you want sharp clear focus on two people in a group photo, like bride and groom at weddings. I’ve found I can swiftly set that super sharp manual focus and then move to auto.
Manual to Auto Focus & Back Again – easy with this snap on and off focus ring.
FOCUS ON THE EYE – BUT WHICH ONE? WEDDINGS REQUIRE MORE THAN ONE PAIR OF EYES TO BE IN FOCUS SO HOW TO SOLVE? – I’ll solve it. When I do i’ll share it.
The first photograph, below, is of my daughter who is 13, show her right eye is in crisp focus using the manual ring, then the left eye is sort of bokeh fuzzy. It is that sharp! I love the sensitivity of the focus ring on manual. She has lovely hazel brown eyes.
We are waiting for the Tesla to charge at the Sarasota Tesla Supercharger. This shot taken at Whole Foods.
I am sitting across form her at a small cafe table. Had to lean back in the chair. But about 2 m aprt. Using the Sony FX3 which is dedicated as a film camera in my work space, but I needed to learn it’s photo capabilities. So adding this powerful macro to the greatest cinema line Sony camera for semi-professionals, (under $6,000 ahem Sony Alpha1 yeah yeah I know) was a win win.
I think this is one of the most beautiful faces I get to see. And there’s something in the eyes there’s a mystery a question almost a doubt. She will never forgive me for posting it but I can not hide you from the world kiddo.

Sony 90 mm Macro Lens
Renowned G Lens background bokeh
Sony 90 mm Macro Lens has beautiful background bokeh is synonymous with the G Lens name. It it can really make the subject stand out. Individual calibration of each lens ensures optimum compensation for spherical aberration, resulting in smooth rendering of edges without a trace of ugly “nisen bokeh.” A nine-blade circular aperture also contributes to great looking bokeh.
Get close while keeping your distance
The medium telephoto focal length of this lens gives it an ideal working distance at macro magnifications, making it easier to capture impressive macro images of insects and other subjects that cannot be approached too closely.
Great for movies as well as stills
In some ways, lens requirements for movie-making are more demanding than for stills. Sony goes the extra mile to ensure that lenses that will be used with movie-capable cameras will deliver the necessary performance. Minimal focus breathing and quiet operation, for example, are essential for movie shooting.
Precise, quiet focus for stills and movies
Two focus groups in a floating focus configuration are driven by an innovative Direct Drive Super Sonic wave Motor system. This is for smooth, precise positioning of the relatively heavy lenses that make full frame macro magnification possible. This system is remarkably quiet, and is ideal for animal or insect photography as well as movies.
Image-wide clarity from macro to infinity
Sony 90 mm Macro lenses are often used over a wide range of focusing distances, so a floating focus mechanism has been implemented for optimum suppression of close-focus aberration. The floating system reduces the size of the lens while maintaining outstanding clarity throughout the image area, from infinity to the closest focusing distance.
Inner focus for better handling
In an inner-focus design, only internal lens elements move when focusing, so the total length of the lens does not change. In addition to making handling easier, that means faster autofocus and shorter minimum focusing distance. The filter thread at the front of the lens does not rotate, which is an advantage when using a polarizing filter.
Focus lock where you need it most
Pressing the focus hold button, conveniently located on the lens barrel, instantly locks focus at the current setting and keeps it there until the button is released. The focus hold button can be used to lock focus even when shooting in the continuous AF mode.
Fast auto/manual focus-switching
If you have to remove your eye from the viewfinder to switch between auto and manual focus, you’re likely to lose the shot. With this lens the focus ring, where your hand normally rests while shooting, simply slides back and forth to switch between manual and auto focus. A non-slip surface ensures reliable operation.
Sharp and clear without a tripod
Although a tripod is usually considered necessary for sharp macro photography, built-in OSS (Optical SteadyShot) image stabilization makes it possible to shoot sharp macro images handheld. The heavy stabilization lens is driven by a responsive linear motor for fast, precise stabilization.
